"F*** out of here you piece of s**t" - Oakland A's reliever Austin Adams fires back at former team after dominant outing

Oakland Athletics reliever Austin Adams launched an expletive-laden attack on his former employers while walking off the mound after shutting out the New York Mets at Citi Field on Tuesday night. During this tirade at his old team, Adams also mocked the "OMG" celebration move that the Mets use after home runs, based on a song released by their infielder Jose Iglesias.

Austin Adams is in his eighth season in the majors and has played for six different teams throughout his career. He pitched for the Arizona Diamondbacks last year before the Mets signed ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Adams was only a non-roster invitee for the club at Spring Training, and he failed to make the cut to the 40-man roster. The New York Mets then moved him to Triple-A in Syracuse but was eventually traded to Oakland for cash considerations.

On Tuesday evening, the two teams met at Citi Field, with the A's taking a 7-1 lead over the Mets in the third. However, their advantage was reduced to three runs in the fifth inning when Austin Adams was brought into the game with two runners on base.

Coming up to the mound against his former team in a high-leverage situation, Adams gave a dominant display to snuff out the danger. He struck out Jeff McNeil before getting Jose Iglesias to pop out, finishing off the inning with a swing-and-miss from Francisco Alvarez.

Adams was visibly pumped with his performance as he came off the mound. He then turned towards the centerfield bleachers and mocked the "OMG" celebration toward the home fans before muttering several profanities that were caught on camera as he walked back to the dugout.

"F*** out of here you piece of s**t," Adams blasted at the home team.

Austin Adams's performance proved to be pivotal in the game, and the reliever was credited with the win as the Mets failed to add any more runs. Meanwhile, the A's added a couple more to their lead in the sixth inning to notch a 9-4 victory on the night.

When you get DFA’d ...it sucks: Austin Adams

After the game, Adams talked to the media about his strong reaction while coming off the mound, as well as his frustrations against his former team (via The Athletic):

“Yeah, I pitch on emotion. I need to do a better job of maybe not doing that. Big-time situation in the game, got some big outs, helped the team win. Listen, when you get DFA’d, you’re told you’re not good enough to play for a team anymore, it sucks. So, yeah, a little extra juice today,” Adams explained.
“Honestly, I looked up, and I was so surprised that I got out of it, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ And then it dawned on me: Oh my gosh. And then so I did it. But that song is sick. Iglesias is a good dude. Hopefully, no one is offended,” he added.

It will be interesting to see if the home team holds a grudge over his reaction. Oakland will face the Mets again on Wednesday for the second encounter of their three-game series.
