Former MLB star Grady Sizemore named interim manager after White Sox fire Pedro Grifol, per insider

The Chicago White Sox have named Grady Sizemore their new interim manager, per an insider. The former MLB star has been tasked with finishing a dreadful and historically awful season for Chicago. Grifol's firing was not a surprise given how bad they were, and the White Sox finally pulled the plug today.

On Wednesday, Jeff Passan broke the news on X (formerly Twitter):

"The Chicago White Sox have named Grady Sizemore as their interim manager after firing Pedro Grifol earlier today. The team said it plans to name a permanent replacement after the regular season ends. Sizemore was a three-time All-Star with Cleveland over a 10-year career."

Sizemore is a former All-Star, having played 10 seasons with the Cleveland Guardians and making the Midsummer Classic thrice. Sizemore also spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox.

Sizemore hadn't had much front office or coaching experience. However, the White Sox have named him to their staff, and now he's their manager.

White Sox appreciate Pedro Grifol's effort before naming Grady Sizemore interim manager

The Chicago White Sox didn't have a manager only a short period. Earlier today, they fired Pedro Grifol after his team endured an AL-record-tying 21-game losing streak. Now, Grady Sizemore is in his place.

In his statement, White Sox manager Chris Getz thanked Grifol for his efforts despite a disappointing season (via ESPN):

"Despite the on-field struggles and lack of success, we appreciate the effort and professionalism Pedro and the staff brought to the ballpark every day. These two seasons have been very challenging. Unfortunately, the results were not there, and a change is necessary as we look to our future and the development of a new energy around the team."

The White Sox are expected to name a full-time manager sometime after the conclusion of the upcoming season, which may see them lose a record number of games.
