Former Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez excited for imminent return to the MLB with the Mets

Former New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is back in the MLB but this time it is with the New York Mets.

Sanchez is a former All-Star catcher who is best known for his time with the Yankees. He was recently called up to the Mets' active roster after originally signing a minor league contract with them earlier this month. He expressed his delight at making a return to the major leagues in a recent interview:

"It feels good to be back here in New York after all those years with the Yankees. It's a different team, but it's still the same city."

Gary Sanchez signed with the New York Yankees as an international free agent in 2009 and made his debut for them in 2015 after playing his way through the minor leagues. He has been named an All-Star twice and won the Silver Slugger award during his time with the Yankees. However, he struggled to find his form after the 2021 season and was eventually traded to the Minnesota Twins in 2022.

After spending a year with the Twins, Sanchez signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants but soon changed teams, signing a minor league contract with the New York Mets on May 9. Ten days later, he has been called to the Mets' active roster to make his return to the MLB.

Can Gary Sanchez find his form again for the New York Mets?

During his prime with the New York Yankees, Gary Sanchez was one of the most feared hitters in the MLB. Now, he seems to be getting some of that confidence back after hitting .308 with one home run, five RBIs, nine walks and 10 strikeouts in eight games at Syracuse.

While he will have plenty of competition for a starting spot for the Mets, they have certainly gambled on the veteran catcher. It remains to be seen if Sanchez can help the Mets make a push for the postseason.
