"Francisco Lindor became that inspiration for me" - John Mayer pens heartfelt note for Mets superstar after Dodgers clinch NL pennant

Francisco Lindor and the New York Mets crashed out of the postseason after a 10-5 loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers in NLCS Game 6. Although they are not going to the World Series, the Mets have inspired renowned singer and songwriter John Mayer.

The Grammy Award winner penned a heartfelt note on Instagram after the Mets' elimination from the postseason, sharing how Francisco Lindor and the National League team's journey this season inspired him.

"Thank you, Francisco Lindor."
"Thank you New York Mets. You never know when you’re going to find a new source of inspiration, and Francisco became that inspiration for me this year. You could see the dedication in his eyes, in his plays - you could even see it in his strikeouts; it wasn’t a case of “couldn’t,” only “didn’t that time.”

Mayer shared an incident over the summer when he injured his left index finger before a performance at the Sphere. However, he took inspiration from Lindor and continued his performance despite the injury.

"When I injured my finger and looked down to see half the nail sheared off and bleeding, my first thought was how to play with the other three fingers. That was what Lindor would have done, and so that’s what I did."

Francisco Lindor emerged as one of the leaders in the clubhouse this season and reportedly called a team meeting after their underwhelming start to the season. His words seemingly inspired a remarkable turnaround, which saw the team make it to the playoffs despite the odds stacked against them.

New York Mets and Francisco Lindor's effort 'more than enough' for John Mayer

Francisco Lindor's grand slam against the Philadelphia Phillies helped the Mets to the championship series, their first since 2015. Although he didn't have the same impact in the championship series against the Dodgers, Mayer and Mets fans are content with the remarkable journey this year.

"I hope that in the next few days, after the disappointment has had its say, Francisco and the entire team realize that what they accomplished was enough."
"So thank you Francisco Lindor, and thank you to the 2024 Mets for the unbelievable adventure, the inspiration, and the reminder to never give up. It was more than enough."

The Mets were one of the underdogs after qualifying for the wild card series. However, the team's fighting spirit has earned widespread praise despite their NLCS exit.
