Freddie Freeman Injury Update: Dodgers star shares progress ahead of crucial NLDS round with Padres

LA Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman is nursing an ankle injury he sustained in the series finale last week against the San Diego Padres in the seventh inning of the game. Freeman missed the series against the Colorado Rockies and had a full week of rest leading up to the NLDS matchup against the Padres, which starts Saturday.

On Friday, appearing in front of the media on the eve of the matchup, the first baseman provided a crucial update on his injury.

"Yeah, a lot of treatment, a lot of time in the training room," Freeman said. "The swelling has come down a lot, so I feel good—good enough. I'm sure you'll be watching me, and the slowing down part of running is probably going to hinder me a little. But overall, today I felt really, really good."
"I've hit batting practice inside and did the same thing yesterday. The last two were running bases and fielding ground balls, so those were my last couple of checkboxes, and I was able to do that today."

Freddie Freeman seems to have checked a lot of boxes as expected and it is almost certain that he'll be there at first base first thing tomorrow.

And of course, his availability is crucial for the Dodgers as they look forward to avoiding a NLDS exit like last year.

How did Freddie Freeman get injured?

During the seventh inning of last Thursday's 7-2 win against the Padres, Freddie Freeman's ankle sprained after he hustled down the first-base line to beat a throw from Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth.

After he touched the bag, the first baseman tried to stop the momentum, and in turn, it led to him rolling his right ankle as he went down.

It was the same game that led the Dodgers to the NL West title. After the game, Freeman was seen in a walking boot and using crutches.

The Dodgers sent Freddie Freeman for imaging, and the X-rays came back negative, which meant there was no fracture and that he wouldn't need a lot of time to recover and get back on the field.
