Freddie Freeman reacts to $700,000,000 superstar Shohei Ohtani's 30th homer of the season against Red Sox
Freddie Freeman supported his Los Angeles Dodgers teammate Shohei Ohtani after he crushed a moonshot on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox. The first baseman posted a clip of Ohtani's home run on social media and reacted to it with an emoji.
The Dodgers had a brilliant outing as they swept the Red Sox at home. The entire batting lineup hit six home runs from six individual batters. Freddie Freeman opened the scoring with a 417-foot homer to right center.
But easily, the biggest showcase came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shohei Ohtani came out to bat for his third time at the plate in the evening. On an 85 mph cutter and 2-1 count, Ohtani plundered a 473-foot bomb to center field that went past the stands and hit the roof. The ball bounced off, cleared the concourse, and to the walkway in the ballpark plaza.
This was the 'Sho's' 30th home run of the season, the National League batter to reach the landmark this season. He only trails Aaron Judge in the home runs standings, who has 35 to his name.
Freeman was stunned at the sight of the ball clearing the bleachers. This was the second-longest home run hit in the Dodger Stadium. He put up a story of Ohtani's home run with a 'bomb' emoji.
Dave Roberts impressed by Dodgers' turnaround
The Dodgers were slightly struggling heading into the All-Star break. Before the Red Sox series, they had just one win in eight games. But fortunes have quickly turned as they were comprehensive winners over their AL East rivals. After the game, manager Dave Roberts spoke about the team back in form.
“Going into the break, we weren't playing good baseball. And then to come out fresh against a really good ballclub and to play the way we did — the offense came to life,” Roberts said.
The Dodgers will now host division rivals San Francisco Giants in a four-game series and look to improve their 59-41 record.
