Freddie Freeman's wife Chelsea drops four-word reaction to her husband's 'insane' Kirk Gibson-esque stat
Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Freddie Freeman was an enigma in the postseason. He got hot at just the right time, even while battling an ankle injury that many believed would keep him out of the World Series.
During Game 1, Freeman became the hero after stepping up to bat in extra innings. With the bases loaded, he connected and sent the ball well over the right-field wall for a walk-off grand slam.
L.A. fans went wild as Freeman circled the bases. It was the perfect start to the series, however, that walk-off home run is eerily similar to another historic home run for the franchise.
"Ok this is insane" said Chelsea.
During the 1988 World Series, Kirk Gibson also hit a walk-off home run during Game 1. When compared to Freeman's walk-off, the two share many similarities.
Both home runs happened at Dodger Stadium in Game 1 of the World Series and both players were dealing with a lower extremity injury. On top of that, they were both hit on the same side of the plate, at the same exact time, and both went over the right-field wall.
Freddie Freeman was dealing with more than just an ankle injury during the World Series
While many were aware that Freddie Freeman was battling an ankle injury, some more light has been shed on his health down the stretch. According to a recent article from MLB insider Jeff Passan, Freeman was also dealing with broken cartilage in his ribs.
An injury to that location can be difficult for hitters, but Freeman vowed to stay in the lineup. He then went on to hit four home runs in the World Series. That goes to show just the type of player Freeman is, and his commitment to the Dodgers.
