"Fun to watch, but also a bummer" — Ross Stripling has mixed feelings on ex-teammate Logan Webb’s dominant shutout

Former San Francisco Giants teammate Ross Stripling has praised current ace Logan Webb after his key shutout performance. Stripling expressed a mixture of praise and disappointment, acknowledging Webb's exceptional pitching and the impact such plays have on opposing teams.

During a postgame interview with CNBC Sports, Stripling described the experience of watching Logan Webb’s shutout, saying:

“That’s vintage Webby right there. It just consistently feels like he is at 65 pitches through six innings, especially here in Oracle [Park] where it just feels like he is so good.
“Fun to watch in a way but also a bummer that happens to our squad, especially when I am pitching and happy that I was able to keep us in it."

Despite his admiration for Logan Webb’s skills, Stripling couldn’t help but feel disappointed that the shutout happened to his team. Webb’s efficiency and command on the mound have made him a formidable opponent, particularly in his home ballpark.

His mixed feelings are understandable, given his past camaraderie with Webb when they played for the San Francisco Giants.

“A lot of guys are facing him for the first time and they are gonna learn about a lot of things they heard last year. Everything is gonna move downwards, but you don't know if it's gonna move left, straight down, or right. Everyone thinks they are on it and it moves in a different direction than they are seeing,” said Ross Stripling

This insight shows how unpredictable and dynamic Webb’s pitches are, which make him hard to face.

Logan Webb didn’t pitch another shutout; he put everyone on notice as to why he is one of the best in the league. His ability to keep delivering dominant outings, particularly at Oracle Park, has solidified him as one of Giants’ main starting pitchers.

Logan Webb's Dominant Shutout Leads Giants to 1-0 Victory Over Athletics

On Wednesday night, Logan Webb pitched his second career shutout, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 1-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics. The game was an absolute gem, ending in less than two hours (1:55) with Webb’s masterful display at its center.

Logan Webb (8-8) struck out six batters, allowing just five singles while issuing only one walk for nine innings. That marked his first complete game of the year and the third of his career. His previous shutout was also a 1-0 win against the Colorado Rockies on July 9, 2023.

Oakland's Ross Stripling (2-10) also pitched well, holding his former team to just one run over 5 2/3 innings. Brett Wisely’s sacrifice fly accounted for the Giants’ lone run in the fifth inning as Mike Yastrzemski scored on it.
