Gavin Lux: "I think every baseball player's dream is to play shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers"
Los Angeles Dodgers' newly-appointed shortstop Gavin Lux suffered a devastating injury that will see him miss the entire 2023 season. The injury occurred as Lux was running from second to third base on a routine ground ball. Manager Dave Roberts announced on Tuesday that Lux suffered a torn ACL in his right knee.
With the departure of All-Star Trea Turner, the 25-year-old was slated to start at shortstop for the Dodgers this season. Watching Lux get carted off the field was hard to watch for baseball fans everywhere.
Gavin Lux was visibly shaken up when speaking to the media after the game:
"I think every baseball player's dream is to play shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers...That's one of the hardest parts"
He sat slouched over with his head down and looked distressed. The injury is disastrous for Lux, who was expected to have a major impact this season.
"I have great respect for @TheRealGavinLux and send him my very best wishes for a full recovery. You can see in this video why he’s so beloved in the #Dodgers organization. @MLBNetwork"
The Dodgers will have to reevaluate their infield options for the upcoming season. Lux's development was one of the reasons the organization moved on from All-Stars Corey Seager and Trea Turner. The Dodgers did add veteran infielder Miguel Rojas from the Miami Marlins, who will likely replace Lux.

Los Angeles Dodgers fans have rallied around Gavin Lux and provided plenty of support. Lux went on to call them the "best fanbase in the world."
Lux has played his entire career with the Dodgers organization since being selected in the first round of the 2016 draft. He worked hard to grind his way up the ladder and made his debut for the organization against the Colorado Rockies in 2019.

He has a.253/.329/.383 slash line with the Dodgers in four seasons. He has recorded 18 home runs and 105 RBIs over 273 MLB games.
It is hard to quantify Lux's value to this Dodgers lineup. Many expected this to be his breakout season. He has a great deal of respect for the organization and what it means to play for the Dodgers. Baseball fans around the country will be rooting for a speedy recovery for one of MLB's rising stars.
