Gleyber Torres has been on and off with his performances for the New York Yankees this season. Torres has had a couple of fielding mishaps this season, and his bad luck seems to continue on the field.

Reigning Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole made his season debut against the Orioles on Wednesday, but Gunnar Henderson soon had a lead-off double as the ball got past Gleyber Torres.

Yankees fans were frustrated to see Torres let the ball slip through in an attempt that could have had more effort. Fans lashed out against Torres for his inconsistency.

Comments continued to pour in as several fans felt that Torres could have made the play.

"Also, the pitch is basically down the middle but for sure shouldn’t have gotten past Gleyber. Horrendous effort," another fan wrote.
"There’s always a million excuses for him but he’s a major league veteran 2nd baseman and he makes far too many mistakes that his bat no longer covers," one fan chipped in.
"Gleyber went from being an Orioles killer to being one of their most productive players against the Yankees," one fan wrote.

Gleyber Torres' sacrifice fly puts the Yankees on the board

Every player has their rough patches and Gleyber Torres seems to be going through one. Torres is already making up for his mishaps as he helped the Yankees get on board with a sacrifice fly.

During the bottom of the first inning, Torres hit a high-fly ball off Cade Povich that sent Juan Soto to home plate. Torres did his part, but fans can only hope for him to avoid such mishaps in the future.

In Cole's first start of the season, the Yankees ace was afforded five innings by manager Aaron Boone. He allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out five hitters.
