"Getting the job done in postseason, something you can't do" - Fans troll NBA star Joel Embiid over reaction to Freddie Freeman's WS walk-off homer
Among the many fans hooked on World Series Game 1 was Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees played Game 1 on Friday night at Dodger Stadium, and as expected, the game delivered on the expectations.
It took extra innings to extract the result, and finally, it was Freddie Freeman's clutch go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the 10th inning that sealed the game for the hosts. With the 6-3 win, the Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series for the Fall Classic Title.
Just after Freeman made Nestor Cortes pay for his four-seam pitch, Embiid took to X and shared his hyped-up reaction.
"Bases loaded grand slam? Jesus Christ" he wrote.
However, fans took the reaction differently, throwing shade at his NBA career. Despite being crowned MVP and one of the best centers in the game, the big man has yet to lead the 76ers to the Eastern Conference Finals. And thus, his talking about a clutch moment didn't sit well with fans.
"It’s called getting the job done in postseason. Something you can’t do," one fan commented.
"Take a page out of Freddie’s book and play," another wrote.
"76ers are 0-2 stop tweeting and suit up," another added.
Some fans trolled him for using bases loaded in his reaction since the grand slam itself means it's a home run scored in a bases loaded situation.
"that’s the only way to hit a Grand Slam. how are you gonna suit up for Team USA and not know that about America’s pastime?" one fan asked.
"Yeah genius, that's what a grand slam is," another wrote.
"Yeah, dumbass, that’s what a grand slam is 😭," another commented.
Joel Embiid has the best chance to finally win NBA title this season
Joel Embiid has been in the NBA since 2014 and has made the All-Star team every season since 2018. However, his regular season triumph has not resulted in playoff success. Be it due to injuries or inability to finish, the 76ers have been waiting to enter the Eastern Conference Finals since the 2000-01 season.
The 76ers' front office has given him star-studded rosters in the past few years, but for some reason, the 76ers drop the ball when it matters the most.
While Joel Embiid's playoff failures are well documented, the 76ers added more to help him this season. Nine-time NBA All-Star Paul George, who was with the LA Clippers last year, signed a four-year, $212 million contract with the 76ers in the offseason.
Along with Tyrese Maxey, the 76ers fans hope Philadelphia will finally win it all this season.
