There was no doubt about it coming off his bat. It is a moment that he will never forget and to do it in front of his fanbase is just the icing on the cake.

This has been something fans have been waiting for since making his debut with the club on July 1. While this is his first home run, he has been tearing it up, carrying a .278 average before Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

"He is already making an impact" - one fan said.

"It's a thing of beauty!" - said another.

Fans could not be more excited about what Wood's future holds. They are starting to build something special in Washington.

"Good for him!!! Hope he stays healthy and is around for a long, long time" - said another.
"We're back" - said another.
"The Nats future is so bright" - said another.

Nationals top prospect James Wood was a two-sport athlete before making his way to IMG Academy during his Junior year in high school. Wood gave up playing basketball to focus on playing baseball for one of the best high school programs in the country.

It was a move that paid off as the San Diego Padres selected him with the 62nd pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. He was then traded to Washington the following season in part of the Juan Soto trade.

Wood is listed at 6-foot-7, however, he still possesses above-average speed both on the basepaths and in the outfield. If he can work on his plate awareness, Wood could lead this franchise for years to come.
