“He was finally hitting and then this happens” - Yankees fans react as Jose Trevino exits game with quad injury against Orioles
Jose Trevino and the New York Yankees are coming off a night to remember at Camden Yard against the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees triumphed with their ace Gerrit Cole on the mound, eventually winning the game by a 4-1 final scoreline.
However, during the bottom of the ninth inning, a bench-clearing brawl turned out to be the highlight of the day. Clay Holmes hit Heston Kjerstad in the head and brought him down to his knees. While the players, umpires and managers settled down, it was soon forgotten that Trevino left the game at the top of the ninth due to a quad injury.
Austin Wells replaced the Yankees catcher after he scored a run with the help of Juan Soto. While reaching home plate, Trevino showed signs of struggle and later left the game as he retired to the dugout.
Reacting to his injury, Yankee fans took to social media to share their thoughts.
Here's a look at some of the fan reactions on X/Twitter:
"He was finally hitting and then this happens," one fan wrote.
"That's a minimum 2 weeks. Probably out a month," one fan added.
"Those legs splits and being a gymnast behind the plate cause his injury?" asked one fan.
Comments continued to flow as some fans began considering replacements for Trevino:
"Not gonna say this is good.. but good Wells can finally play all the time like he should have been from the start," wrote on fan.
"Bring our top prospect Agustin Ramirez," one fan chipped in.
"Let Rice be backup catcher. Give Wells full time spot," one fan responded.
Jose Trevino was spotted limping out of dugout during Yankees vs. Orioles scuffle
While the benches were cleared at the bottom of the ninth, Trevino was spotted limping out of the dugout. He was seen limping his way out to the crowd, and it doesn't seem like he will be able to play tomorrow.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Jose Trevino will be evaluated on Saturday to address the issue. The Bronx Bombers might not have their catcher in this series as they continue to take on the Orioles.
