"He's a leader, he's got more years to go" - Reds remain reluctant to trade Jonathan India despite challenging season, per insider

Despite a lot of speculation on Jonathan India's immediate future, it seems like he will stay put with the Cincinnati Reds. It was reported that the Reds did listen to a few trade offers for their in-form batter, as per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, they are unlikely to let him go.

India still has two more years of club control and even with a 49-53 record this season so far Cincinnati is just 4 games behind the third spot in the National League Wild Card race. If things change then India will have a lot of responsibility to help steer the Reds lineup.

"The Reds are reluctant to trade him. He's a leader, he's got more years to go, that's the key really. He's not a rental," Heyman said on the NY Post Sports' YouTube channel.

Jonathan India is having a year of resurgence. After averaging just .247 over the last two seasons, the second baseman has posted a .271 average with 40 RBIs, including eight home runs. He has an incredibly good chase rate that has seen him get 50 walks already and an OPS of .789.

Why Yankees are interested in Jonathan India?

The Yankees are effectively out of a third offensive threat this season behind Juan Soto and Aaron Judge. Aaron Boone's management has had to chop and change every other player in the lineup because of the lack of consistency. Had the Yankees signed Jonathan India, then he could have been given a nod in the leadoff position from where the Reds 2B is batting at .265.

India's stats are ahead of Gleyber Torres (.671 OPS) who is the primary choice at second base for New York. But Torres has been the third-best hitter in the Bombers lineup in the last few games and bringing in the 27-year-old might require the Yanks to shuffle a few pieces in the diamond.
