"He’s not the star....not the center of attention” - Ex-Marlins executive David Samson bombards Jazz Chisholm Jr. after successful start at Yankees
Former Miami Marlins president David Samson launched a bitter attack on Jazz Chisholm Jr. after his excellent start with the New York Yankees. Samson believes Chisholm Jr. will get a false sense of security that he is one of the star players on his new team after sparking the Yankees out of a bad stretch. He also said that the media will turn on Chisholm Jr. just as quickly if he has a short slump in New York.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. was traded by the Marlins at the trade deadline after spending four and a half years with the organization. Chisholm Jr. was batting .249/.323/.407 for the season before he was acquired by the Yankees on July 27. In the three games for his new team, the 26-year-old has hit 6-15 with 1.200 slugging and four home runs, which has coincided with a five-game winning streak for the Yankees.
David Samson is the host of the "Nothing Personal with David Samson" podcast, and a co-host with former ESPN president John Skipper for The Sporting Class. He was also the president of the Marlins franchise from 2002 to 2017. On Wednesday, Samson, who is known for his outspoken nature, was a guest on the Le Batard Show when he aired his views on the new Yankee signing.
“Jazz Chisholm Jr. has gotten off to a good start, and that’s going to maybe give him the false sense that he’s the center of some amount of attention. But wait till he goes 1-for-13 in New York. In Miami, it gets ignored with one camera. In New York, you’re on the back page of The Post. So be careful what you wish for,” David Samson said. (starting at 5:15)
Samson does not feel Chisholm Jr. will be able to sustain his strong performances for long, but only time will tell if he proves to be correct.
That was all Derek Jeter: David Samson believes Yankees legend was behind Jazz Chisholm Jr. being on the cover of MLB The Show 23
David Samson also said on the "Le Batard Show" that former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter played a major role in Jazz Chisholm Jr. being selected to be on the cover of the MLB The Show 23 video game. Jeter appears on the cover of The Captain Edition, and he is featured along with Chisholm Jr. in a television commercial for the game.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. has received a lot of flak for this, with many people, including Samson, labeling him as overrated to be the superstar deserving of the role.
“I know you’re excited about Jazz Chisholm Jr. because he was on the front of MLB The Show 23. That was all Jeter doing that. All the talk of Jeter being his idol, it was all ridiculousness. Jazz needed to be traded off this team, and the fact that he was given to the Yankees, whatever happens with the Yankees is fine. He’s not the star; he’s not the center of attention,” he said. David Samson has criticized Derek Jeter several times on a wide range of matters in the past, including on the Le Batard Show.
