Being an MLB player takes a sacrifice to stay away from family for much of the season. They often miss many milestones of their children due to their commitment to their franchise baseball. Rodon, who's been in the league since April 2015, would know better than most.
On Tuesday, Ashley shared an image of their son Bo playing baseball with his dad, Carlos, in the backyard. Ashley captured this moment while writing a heartfelt letter letting her son know how dedicated and hardworking his father has been.
"One day I'll share with you something special about your dad," Ashley wrote to her son about his dad. "How he worked tirelessly so l could be home with you all, so l would never miss any milestone - big or small. How he lived and dreamed to give you three all he ever dreamed of having and so much more.
"How when he walked in the door, no matter how tired, he tried his best to be all you needed and more."
Carlos Rodon slams those taking a shade at his family after rough ALDS outing
In his only game for the New York Yankees in the ALDS showdown against the Kansas City Royals, a 4-2 defeat taken by Carlos Rodon, who started the game. In 3.2 innings pitched, Rodon allowed seven hits, giving all four earned runs, leading to the Yankees' loss.
Fans on social media sent disturbing messages to the couple, and Ashley, who's active, shared them online. The messages also extended to threatening to do something to their children.
"DM’s already willlllld. I love interacting with everyone, but there’s no place for this sh*t," Ashley wrote on X.
When reporters asked Carlos Rodon about it, the pitcher slammed back at those fans.
"People are pretty disgusting at times. But I feel like that doesn’t explain Yankees fans. I don’t think that’s who they are," Rodón told reporters. "I understand [fans] get frustrated with the game, but my message to fans all around is, 'We are human as well. We do make mistakes. We’re not always perfect. I’m, by far, not always perfect, and I understand frustration and I understand people get frustrated with performance.'
"But let’s not forget that this is ultimately just a game of baseball, and it doesn’t come down to hurting and sending out negative messages and threatening people’s families. Honestly, I feel for my wife, because our kids mean the world to us, and our family is really important to us."
Rodon followed the ALDS Game 2 outing with a stellar ALCS Game 1 against the Cleveland Guardians, where he pitched six innings, only giving up one run, resulting in his team winning 5-2.
The next challenge for Rodon and the Yankees will be up against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
