"Help our kids know Jesus better" - Jackson Holliday’s dad Matt highlights parents' key role in children's life
Jackson Holliday's parents, Matt and Leslee, are devout Christians. They have a deep connection with God and have tried to impart their morals and principles to their four children, Jackson, Ehtan, Gracyn and Reed.
The couple appeared on the "Pure Athlete" podcast where they were asked about balancing their busy life as a baseball family and going to church on Sundays.
"I think at least for me, obviously Sunday is the day that most people go to church but I feel a healthy relationship with Jesus and a healthy relationship for our family trying to teach Jesus to our kids is more of an every day and it can't be limited to Sunday some times the lifestyle that we live in," Matt said. (27:36)
The 7-time All-Star pointed out that they have tried to provide their children with a Christian upbringing while respecting their own careers. Although this has sometimes meant not being able to make it to Church on Sundays, the family seems to have found ways to navigate this challenge.
"Obviously in a perfect world you could find a great church no matter where you are... I think our job as parents is to help our kids know Jesus better but that's not always going to be on Sunday or Wednesday and so that could be any day every day. I think in a healthy relationship they see us pursuing our relationship with Jesus and how do you grow as a Christian," Matt added.
Jackson Holliday's mother Leslee on being 'fired up' for an opportunity to go to Church
Jackson Holliday's mother, Leslee, gave her thoughts about the Holliday family going to Church on Sunday. She spoke about the freedom that comes with reading the Bible and getting to choose their time with God. Excitedly, she claimed being 'fired up' when they get the opportunity to go.
"You orient your life towards the things that you value and so if it works on Sunday, we go but we also understand what the Bible talks about - there's freedom in Christ. Our relationship with Jesus is every single day. If it works we're so fired up we can go and love going to Church. But there are times when it just doesn't work out," Leslee said. (30:20)
Both parents would pray that everything goes well for their eldest son Jackson Holliday as the postseason approaches for the Orioles.
