Houston Astros vs Arizona Diamondbacks Game Player Stats and Box Scores for September 8

The Arizona Diamondbacks ended their three-game road series against the Houston Astros with a win at Minute Maid Park. On Sunday, the Dbacks won 12-6 after losing the first two games of the series.

The offense came easy for both teams in this game. However, the difference came in terms of relief pitching. After Dbacks starter Ryan Nelson exited the game in the fifth inning, Kevin Ginkel, AJ Puk, Ryan Thompson, and Paul Sewald picked up the slack, allowing only one earned run in 5.1 innings.

On the other hand, Astros starter Justin Verlander gave up eight runs before he exited the ball game after just three innings. Apart from Caleb Ferguson, every one of the Astros' five relievers gave up at least one run.

For the Dbacks, Pavin Smith was the star of the game, smacking three home runs and contributing a career-high eight RBIs in the game.

With the win, the Diamondbacks improved to 80-64, while the Astros slid to 77-66.

Pavin Smith, Eugenio Suarez and Alex Bregman hit home runs tonight

Minute Maid Park was treated with a flurry of home runs; however, they would have liked it if they didn't come mostly from Diamondbacks hitters.

The first home run of the night came from Pavin Smith, who clubbed a three-run home run against Houston Astros starter Justin Verlander in the second inning. The 339 ft drove in Jake McCarthy and Eugenio Suarez.

The very next inning, Smith took Verlander deep again, this time for a grand slam, ballooning the Dbacks lead to 8-0. The 372-foot rocket in left-center field drove in Josh Bell, McCarthy and Suarez.

Alex Bregman got one for the home team when he launched a two-run, 360-foot home run in the fourth inning.

Smith's third home run of the night came on a solo homer against Kaleb Ort. Eugenio Suarez's 389-foot solo hit was the last home run of the game.
