Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners Game Player Stats and Box Scores for September 23

The Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners opened a three-game series from Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. While the Astros are leading the division, the Mariners are still fighting for a Wild Card berth with just a few games remaining in the season.

Houston had Hunter Brown on the mound as their starter in Game 1, while the Mariners had Bryce Miller. Miller got off to a strong start as the 'Stros were unable to score. Brown started out strong but surrendered a base hit that drove Randy Arozerana home. The Mariners took an early 1-0 lead and prevented their opponent from scoring for the first six innings.

The Stros retired Brown after six decent innings as Caleb Ferguson took the mound. However, Ferguson was caught in a tough situation, so they brought in Kaleb Ort.

The Astros' pitching was no match for the Mariners. Julio Rodriguez drove in an RBI single at the top of the seventh inning, while Justin Turner recorded a sacrifice fly, giving his team a 3-0 lead in the top of the eighth. The Mariners went on to score two runs in the eighth as they extended their lead to 4-0.

Jason Heyward hit a home run tonight

Jason Heyward was the first to hit a home run tonight as he got the Stros on the board first. Heyward smashed a home run off Troy Taylor in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Mariners racked up another RBI double and scored two runs in the top of the ninth. Seattle took advantage of Houston's struggling bullpen. The Mariners won with ease after scoring six runs and giving up only one in return.

Seattle must win all their remaining regular season games to qualify for the playoffs. The Mariners have a better shot since they will play the Oakland Athletics in their last three-game series. However, they must win every single game.

As for the Stros, they will face the Cleveland Guardians in their last three games. Houston must equally win to stand a chance for the playoffs.
