How Yankees, Dodgers, Mets & other MLB teams honored 9/11 victims and firefighters on 23rd anniversary
MLB has long honored the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and that is no different this season. From special hats and patches to social media posts, there is plenty to go over.
For starters, New York Mets and New York Yankees players can wear a first-responders hat with their team logo on the side. Their opponents, the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals, can wear a NYPD or FDNY hat during batting practice, per MLB.com's Jason Foster.
Plenty of teams shared posts honoring the victims across social media. From the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Pittsburgh Pirates, everybody came together on the anniversary of a day many will not forget.
The San Diego Diego Padres also came out with a post while the Pirates will honor first responders ahead of their game Wednesday.
There is no shortage of remembrance on this day. The entire sport has banded together like they do every year on this important date.
MLB stands together to honor 9/11 victims
All players, managers, and umpires will wear a special 9/11 patch on the right side of their hats. This is something that has been done in years past. The Toronto Blue Jays will have a customized ribbon, featuring the Canadian and American flags.
Outside of social media posts, team sites, and MLBTogether.com will provide coverage of the ceremonies as well.
Another event taking place in honor of the date is the volunteer meal-packing project across the country. League employees will be at the Intrepid Air, Sea, & Space Museum in New York to pack meals distributed by City Harvest food bank.
This is just one of 18 locations participating in the project. Yankees pitcher Luke Weaver and Royals slugger MJ Melendez are said to join the league employees in New York. Former players like Dellin Betances and Bartolo Colon will also be there.
