Paul Skenes named Baseball Digest’s NL Rookie of the Year
When Olivia Dunne and Paul Skenes make their College GameDay debuts, the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher will be doing so with an additional accolade in his trophy case.
The rookie flamethrower has been named Baseball Digest's National League Rookie of the Year. He beat his main competitor, Jackson Merrill of the San Diego Padres, for the award.
It remains to be seen which of Skenes or Merrill will be named the BBWAA's NL Rookie of the Year. However, it's clear that the Pittsburgh ace's tremendous first campaign has not gone unnoticed. It could come down to the wire between Skenes and Merrill when the MLB awards are announced on November 18.
