"I have a boo boo but I can walk" - Freddie Freeman's wife Chelsea shares son Brandon's innocent reaction to twin Max's paralysis
LA Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman's sons Brandon and Charlie are standing by their brother Maximus, who is coming off a major health scare. Maximus came down with an infection post-the All-Star break.
In the last week of July, he was admitted to the ER after suffering full body paralysis. Further tests revealed Maximus has suffered a rare neurological condition called Guillain-Barré syndrome.
However, Maximus was discharged after eight days in the ICU with a long recovery ahead of him. He'll have to learn to walk again with the help of physical therapy. On Wednesday, Chelsea took questions from her followers, most of which were concerning towards Maximus' health.
One follower asked Chelsea how the brothers are handling Maximus' recovery, to which Chelsea replied:
"They have been so great. Brandon definitely doesn't fully understand it... he fell and cut his knee today and said "Mommy I have a boo boo but I can walk. Why max no walk?" but they have been so great and Brandon likes to do PT with Max. Their bond is so special. So thankful for my boys," Chelsea wrote.
Chelsea Freeman updates about Max's situation
In another post, Chelsea Freeman spoke about Maximus recovery ahead, which would include intense physiotherapy scheduled four days a week.
"He is not walking yet, but he is able to maneuver his way around and can crawl really well. We are doing PT 4xs a week. He is such a strong little boy. I just love him so much. #gbssurvivor," Chelsea wrote.
Talking about Max's treatment methodology upon a follower inquiry, Chelsea mentioned first the doctors ruled out any potential cancer and tumors through MRI results. Max did two rounds of intravenous immunoglobulin therapy (IVIg) to fight against the infection, Guillain-Barré syndrome.
She thanked the US public who donates plasma, which is extracted out of blood through a high-tech machine that separates the liquid portion of the donor's blood.
For now, as Chelsea said, Maximus is on the path to full recovery but it may take some time before he gets back on his feet. Meanwhile, he has his brothers, mother and Freddie Freeman to take care of him.
