"I don’t think anyone knows" - Juan Soto's latest free agency rumors involving Mets, Yankees, Red Sox & others dismissed by MLB insider
Rumors continue to fly around where Juan Soto is going to land. The star free agent has received offers from five teams and some counteroffers. The sweepstakes are underway, and every so often, a new report suggests that Soto is either leaning towards or heading to a different team.
However, one MLB insider posits that no one knows. Andy Martino, an SNY reporter who covers the NY-based teams, quoted a source on Monday confirming this.
The source said, according to SNY:
“I don’t think anyone knows where Juan wants to play except for Juan and [agent Scott] Boras, and maybe Juan’s family."
Even the Yankees, who have the best relationship with him of all suitors since he was in the building, genuinely have no idea where he's headed. It has been that way all season and into the offseason.
The Yankees have the advantage of knowing how he fits in their clubhouse and lineup. He has that advantage as well. The Mets have endless cash to spend. The Red Sox have a great pitch for Soto to join them. The Dodgers have a super-team already and could be unstoppable with him.
Every team has some reason Soto may sign with them, but Martino says no one knows how much any of that matters to the free agent himself. And as a result, no one actually knows where he's going to sign.
Latest odds on Juan Soto's next team
Despite all the reports, one of which even indicated that the New York Yankees are now out on Juan Soto, the odds tell the story they have for a very long time. The Yankees remain the favorite per BetMGM.
They're -110, which means they have far and away the best shot of signing him. Behind them are the following teams:
- Mets +150
- Red Sox +300
- Dodgers +300
- Blue Jays +300
- Giants +2000
The San Francisco Giants are barely involved in the sweepstakes, which is why every other team has much lower odds. It's down to those five teams, and it looks like the Yankees are still in the lead. But as Andy Martino pointed out, no one knows.
