"I haven't gotten to do these things in the summertime" - Mookie Betts seizes rare chance for quality time with family amid IL stint
It’s tough for Mookie Betts to stay out of the game, especially when he was having a great season. His left-hand fracture in the Kansas City Royals game last month landed him on an IL, with no timeline to return.
However, instead of slumping, the Dodger has found a silver lining in his situation. Betts now has a part-time job as the Dodgers commentator, often sharing his game insights as well as some behind-the-scenes stories on-air.
During a Dodgers-Brewers game, Betts shared that, owing to injury, he’s now spending more quality time with his family and enjoying holidays with kids. This is something he hasn't done before during summer.
“The one cool thing about this whole IL situation is that I really have gotten to spend a lot more time with my kids,” Betts said. “I haven’t gotten time to spend 4th July, watch fireworks with my kids before. So that was really really cool.
“I haven’t really gotten in the pool in the daytime. Kynlee [Mookie Betts' daughter], swim with her, hang with her. I haven’t gotten to just go, wake up in the morning and go hit pickle balls with my wife. Like, I haven’t gotten to do these things and so, now, I’m getting to do it and in the summertime, not in wintertime. It’s a blessing.”
In the pre-injury stage, Mookie Betts had a stat line of .304/.405/.488 while maintaining a .892 OPS in 72 games. He received his eighth All-Star invitation.
Betts, thus, joined fellow Dodgers Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, Teoscar Hernandez and Tyler Glasnow in representing NL West’s top team in this year’s Midseason Classic.
Mookie Betts’ wife Brianna gushed over her husband’s latest part-time job personality
Mookie Betts’ charisma is not only limited to his on-field role. While recovering from injury, the Dodgers superstar decided to give a limited-time service to his fans with his new broadcasting job.
The first person to be gushed on commentator Betts was none other than his wife, Brianna Betts. She took to Instagram to share her husband’s part-time job personality with an appealing caption:
“Oh hey commentator!”
Mookie and Brianna have known each other since middle school and tied the knot in 2021. This was following his successful stint with the Dodgers to win the World Series Championship in 2020.
They welcomed their daughter, Kynlee Betts, in 2018, and their son, Kaj Lynn Betts, in April of last year, completing their sweet, happy family.
