"I know you don't like us right now" - Mookie Betts teases Derek Jeter after Dodgers take 2-0 lead over Yankees in World Series 2024

The Los Angeles Dodgers have bossed the New York Yankees in the first two games of the World Series. The series now heads to New York. The mood in the Dodgers camp is pretty buoyant as they look to spoil the Yanks' first-ever shot at the title in 15 years.

This has also translated into some fun banter between the two sides, not limited to the current generation. After the win, Mookie Betts had a fun exchange with ex-Yankees captain and baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter during Fox's post-game show.

The Dodgers outfielder greeted the other panelists, Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz, his former teammate, who were in conversation with LA first baseman Freddie Freeman. He then proceeded to hug Jeter and state that because of their advantage, the Yankees faithful might not like them currently.

"I know you don't like us right now, but I love you too," Betts said.

Betts has had a strong start to the World Series. He hit a game-tying sacrifice in the eighth inning on Friday. He was able to reach base twice in game 2, and scored once when Teoscar Hernandez hit a two-run bomb in the third inning.

He has gone 15-for-51 with a high .294 average in the 13 postseason games so far.

David Ortiz mimics Yankees sportscaster John Sterling's iconic call

Mookie Betts wasn't the only one who pulled Derek Jeter's leg on air. Even Ortiz, who was one of the mainstays in the epic Red Sox and Yankees rivalry in the 2000s, got on the bandwagon.

As host Kevin Burkhardt rounded out the show, Jeter mimicked Yankees announcer John Sterling's 'Theeee Yankees Win' call with a twist of his own.

"Today was a god day... because DA Yankees lose," Ortiz said.

The Yankees will have their work cut out at home as they host the Dodgers for a three-game leg.

Stats show that 45 of the 56 teams that took a 2-0 lead in the World Series have gone on to win. Although the Yanks will be optimistic, as the last time they went 0-2 behind in the Fall Classic, they won three straight at home in 2001, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
