As the July 30 trade deadline nears, the Rangers' slow start has led to rumors about trading Max Scherzer, who is in the last year of his contract. However, the eight-time All-Star recently shared his intentions on an episode of the 'Foul Territory' podcast.
When former baseball catcher and TV presenter A.J. Pierzynski asked if he would consider waiving his no-trade clause again, Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer said:
"Yeah, I'm not going to do that, but I just don't think I'm going to have to think about that. I think we're gonna play better baseball. It's gonna be a moot point to even talk about, so, I think we're gonna win here."
The reigning World Series champions, the Texas Rangers, are gradually improving their standings after a tough start to the 2024 season. They are currently on a five-game winning streak and sit 5.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners in the AL West division standings.
The Rangers hold the third position in the AL West with 44 wins and 48 losses, maintaining a .478 winning percentage. Additionally, they are 7.0 games behind the Boston Red Sox for the final wild-card playoff spot.
Max Scherzer struck out six in 5-4 victory against the Angels
The Texas Rangers won 5-4 against division rivals the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday at Angel Stadium. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed four runs on eight hits and recorded six strikeouts in the 6.2 innings he pitched.
Scherzer threw 95 pitches, with 70 of them being strikes. He now maintains his ERA at 3.09, a 0.94 WHIP, and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 17 strikeouts to 3 walks through 23.1 innings pitched across four starts.
Max Scherzer returned to play in the 2024 season on June 23 after undergoing surgery for a herniated disc and dealing with thumb soreness and nerve issues following the 2023 season.
After winning their first two games, the Texas Rangers will attempt to sweep the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday in the final game of their three-game series.
