"I'm so proud to be your son" - When Bryce Harper brought his mom Sherilyn to tears with his touching Mother's Day message
Bryce Harper has become one of the most recognizable faces in the sport of baseball. He started turning heads at a young age and was picked to be the game's next star well before he graduated high school.
Part of the reason Harper has become such an elite talent in the sport is the support of his loving family. Harper has a close relationship with his mother and father.
Back in 2017, Harper teamed up with ESPN's SportsCenter for a special Mother's Day gift. He was asked to write a letter to his mom, showing just how much she meant to him.
"Dear mom, happy Mother's Day to the best mother a son could ever ask for. I'm truly blessed to have you as my mom. From the moment I was born to and in those first days of my life where things were touch and go , your love immediately helped me overcome great obstacles," Harper said.
What Harper did not know was that his mother was in the other room listening live to what Harper had written.
"Every morning before school, my lunch was waiting with the symbols for 'I love you' on the back and when we would all get home you always made sure the smell from your cooking filled the house," Harper said.
Harper could not help but get emotional as he was trying to power through his words. There is no denying just how close these two are.
"You held my hand as a child but you'll hold my heart forever. I'm so proud to be your son so thankful to call you mom," Harper said.
Bryce Harper makes sure his mom knows he loves her
You may have noticed Bryce Harper's hand signal after he mashes a home run. In sign language, it means "I love you." While some fans may have thought it was geared toward them, it is not.
When Harper was a child, he forgot to give his mom their usual kiss goodbye. After, his mother flashed the sign to him, and it stook.
Harper has certainly shown his mother a ton of love throughout his career. He has 336 home runs to his name and counting. He is currently ranked seventh among active players in terms of home runs and should continue to climb up the ranks over the years.
