"I am pretty antsy thinking about it" - Garrett Crochet recalls conversation with White Sox GM Chris Getz amid trade interest from Dodgers, Mets
White Sox starting pitcher Garrett Crochet is in demand this offseason. For any team that sees themselves going deep into the postseason, the importance of having quality arms to call upon cannot be overstated and the Chicago White Sox man, with his performances throughout the 2024 season, has shown that he fits that bill.
With the anticipation surrounding Crochet's next step, on Wednesday, November 13, the White Sox man talked about his past conversation with White Sox GM Chris Getz.
It played an important role in getting him a chance as a starting pitcher for the White Sox, helping him on his way to eventually becoming the side's main man on the mound.
"We did it over the phone. Right when he (Chris Getz) got hired, when the staff changed, right around the trade deadline, early August? I was in Charlotte at the time on a rehab assignment, and he had mentioned, he was like 'At the end of the year, lets reconnect on this', wanting to hear my thoughts, which was incredibly important and meaningful to me. The season ended, I was kinda like waiting, waiting and I was like 'Alright, I'm gonna text him'." Garrett Crochet said [0:13]
"So, I finally text him, I was like 'Hey, man, I'm pretty antsy thinking about it'. It was right before I actually started training for the offseason. I brought it to him, I had four years since being drafted, being told that I'd be a starter long term, but having yet to get the opportunity. I had a lot of time to really sit and think about reasons why this was the right move for me. So I felt like I had a lot to offer in the conversation." Garrett Crochet added.
The franchises interested in bringing in Garrett Crochet
For the 2024 season, Garrett Crochet had a 3.58 ERA, striking out 209 batters with a 6-12 record. With the White Sox enduring one of the worst MLB seasons in history, a move away from the Guaranteed Rate Field seems to be the obvious next step for Crochett.
According to sources, the five main contenders that are vying to acquire crochet before the 2025 season are the Baltimore Orioles, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets.
With some of the aforementioned teams set to lose key members of their pitching rotation to free agency, bringing in Crochet seems like the perfect option.
Only 25 years old and under team control until 2027, the acquisition of Garrett Crochet, following his displays in the recently concluded season, seems like a no-brainer.
However, anyone bringing Crochet in should know that whatever they will save in cash considerations, they will need to make up in the form of prospects which may complicate matters quite a bit.
