"I think this guy is going to have his best year" - Angels' GM Perry Minasian on Mike Trout's upcoming season
The Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout has been plagued with injuries and has missed 334 games in the last four seasons. But the Angels' general manager Perry Minasian is confident that he will have a standout year in the upcoming season.
Trout is a cornerstone of the Angels’ lineup and is widely regarded as one of baseball's greatest talents. He is a three-time AL MVP and a consensus top-five player of all time. In response to questions about his potential on Sirius XM, Minasian talked about Trout’s future.
"I have said this before and I will say it again: this guy is going to have his best year. Just from talking to him and seeing it in his eyes, he is not somebody I am betting against. I believe he’s going to be right in that MVP mix, and he is going to have his best year," said Perry Minasian.
Trout has faced injuries the recent seasons. His commitment to coming back stronger has been clear. Minasian's remarks showcase a sense of hope within the Angels organization, showing their confidence in Trout's ability to conquer obstacles and guide the team towards triumph.
“What happened for the last four years has been really unfortunate,” said Perry Minasian.
“Because of the support system he has, because of the person he is, because I know what he will put in this offseason, and for me, one of the bigger things is being able to do this thing again quick and have a normal off-season," said Perry Minasian.
Minasian’s positivity concerning Mike Trout's future does not just come from a place of hope. Instead, it stems from what Trout has done in the past and his firm determination to overcome the recent setbacks.
With Minasian’s support and Trout’s determination, the coming season could see the outfielder achieving new heights in his already illustrious career.
A look back at Mike Trout's recent injuries
Mike Trout's exceptional performance was evident from 2012 to 2019. He clinched the AL Rookie of the Year title, secured three American League MVP awards and consistently placed among the top four in MVP rankings each year. Yet, following the 2020 season, his struggles with injuries have persistently worsened.
In 2021, Trout’s season was derailed by a calf strain. This injury occurred during a routine play at third base. The setback not only affected his playing time but also his overall impact on the field.
The following year, Trout’s troubles continued with a rare spinal condition. This diagnosis significantly impacted his availability, restricting him to just 119 games.
Last year, Mike Trout faced yet another setback. On July 3, a seemingly normal swing resulted in a hamate bone fracture. The injury was severe enough to sideline him for the remainder of the season, with his return limited to just one game in August before he was shut down again.
Hopefully, Trout's travails with injuries are over and he can go ahead and reach the heights of success he deserves.
