"I think that would be pretty iconic" - Olivia Dunne backs idea of dual Sports Illustrated cover with boyfriend Paul Skenes during ESPYS 2024
LSU gymnast and Paul Skenes' girlfriend Olivia Dunne was at the ESPYs at Dolby Theatre in LA. Dunne has had a pretty busy year. While talking about it near the red carpet, she suggested how the next cover on Sports Illustrated magazine should be like.
After making her SI Swimsuit debut last year a couple of months ago, Dunne once again featured in another SI Swimsuit issue, which was in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the legendary magazine.
At ESPYs, she suggested to have a dual cover that includes her boyfriend, Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Paul Skenes, and her.
"I never even thought of that, but I think that you should tell Sports Illustrated because that would be pretty iconic," Dunne said at the event.
Olivia Dunne and Paul Skenes know each other from their Baton Rouge days while representing LSU in gymnastics and college baseball respectively.
Both helped the two programs raise banners. Skenes helped them win the World Series last year, while Dunne lifted the program's first NCAA crown in gymnastics in April this year.
Olivia Dunne reacts after Paul Skenes being pulled off despite registering no hits
While Olivia Dunne is roaming around the world, she continues to send her best wishes and watch her boyfriend fan hitters whenever she gets time. Despite being busy at the ESPYs, she followed up with Paul Skenes' latest start on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Pirates rookie had a no-hitter going, having pitched seven hitless innings, including one walk and 11 strikeouts. However, Pirates manager Derek Shelton pulled him out of the game citing workload reasons, disappointing fans.
Dunne followed it up with a post where she wrote "Slay" in her story.
After the game, Skenes didn't seem surprised with the decision of Shelton, though.
“I wasn't going to be surprised either way if he sent me out or pulled me…Obviously, in a 1-0 game, you want to stay in there, you want to finish it, but the volume's getting up there a little bit, so I get it,” Skenes said in a post game interview.
Skenes is having a wonderful year - posting 6-0, 1.90 ERA, 89 Ks and 0.92 WHIP - and is among the frontrunners to win the Rookie of the Year award.
