"I've been given warning by the league": Trevor Bauer lashes out at 'ridiculous' two-game suspension rule for fan interaction, alleges discrimination
Trevor Bauer has always let his personality and competitiveness shine on the mound. While that has helped him generate a strong following on social media, it has also helped make him one of the most polarizing players in professional baseball.
Even though Bauer has been looking to repair his damaged image as the result of sexual assault allegations made against him, he has continued to talk trash to his opponents, as well as their fans. Well, it turns out the latter got him in hot water during his recent season with the Diablos Rojos del México of the Mexican League.
In his latest video blog on YouTube, Bauer explained how his interactions with fans led to him receiving a notice from the league. The former Los Angeles Dodgers star dove into the warning he received and how he was told to stop provoking opposing fans.
"I have been given a warning from the league that I am not allowed to gesture to the fans," Bauer said. "Most people would call that entertaining the fans. The fans can chat, they can throw beer at our players in the bullpen, they can throw beer at me on the field, that's all fine. But if I do this to the fans, that's a two-game suspension, allegedly." Although Bauer did not dive into the exact details of the warning issued by the Mexican League, he claims that he could have received a two-game suspension for cupping his hand to his ear in the direction of the opposing fans. He joked in the video that as a starting pitcher who throws once every five games, a two-game suspension was meaningless.
"Come on, two games for entertaining the crowd, that seems pretty ridiculous to me," Bauer added. [2:23]
Even after being issued a warning, Trevor Bauer was still comical and emotional on the mound. En route to a Mexican League title, Bauer had several run-ins with various players, with Jorge Flores of the Guerreros de Oaxaca being one of his most notorious rivals.
Trevor Bauer was simply dominant this season in the Mexican League
Trevor Bauer may no longer be the Cy Young Award-winning talent that he was with the Cincinnati Reds. However, he proved that he still has plenty of juice in his arm and an effective arsenal of pitches.
Not only did Bauer help the Diablos Rojos del México earn an All-Star selection, but the polarizing starter was named the Pitcher of the Year in the Mexican Baseball League. It's safe to say that Bauer's move to Mexico was fruitful.
