"I wish the Yankee offense around him would light up” – Fans troll New York's struggles after images of Juan Soto’s new cleats circulate social media
It's been a difficult stretch for Juan Soto and the New York Yankees. The club, started the year as one of the top teams in the league, however, the Bronx Bombers have been dreadful lately, dropping 14 of their last 19 games. As a result, the club has fallen behind the Baltimore Orioles for the division lead in the American League East.
Juan Soto, meanwhile, has been electric on the field. The superstar has taken it a step further, as the outfielder will don a pair of illuminated cleats this weekend. The All-Star's cleats will not only have the iconic Yankees pinstripes but also feature functional lights that will shine. Although the cleats bring some excitement, disgruntled fans could not help themselves from taking shots at the club:
"I wish the Yankee offense around him would light up," one fan posted on X/Twitter.
"Maybe they should worry about the win, more than the bling," another fan shared.
"The Yankees are not a serious team." one fan added.
It's been a disaster lately for the New York Yankees as the team has been unable to dig out of their recent slump. That being said, the team finds itself in a solid position to reach the postseason and will look to get back on track Friday against the Boston Red Sox.
"This literally means nothing if we don’t WIN GAMES," one fan said.
"The skid this team is on, how about they focus on winning a game," another fan shared.
"Doing everything but winning games," another fan chimed in.
Although the Yankees have struggled as a collective unit lately, the same cannot be said about superstars Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. The duo remains one of the most electric tandems in the MLB, and both players have been selected to represent the American League in the 2024 All-Star Game.
Juan Soto has been tremendous in his first season with Yankees
This offseason, the Bronx Bombers made a major splash on the trade market landing Soto and fellow outfielder Trent Grisham in a blockbuster deal with the San Diego Padres. In exchange, the Yankees sent a package of Michael King, Jhony Brito, Randy Vasquez, Drew Thorpe and Kyle Higashioka.
Prior to the team's recent slump, Soto has been a driving force for the Yankees. Through 85 games this season, the 25-year-old has posted an impressive .300 batting average, 21 home runs, 63 RBIs and a 1.005 OPS. He has emerged as an AL MVP contender.
