"I yelled out and went crazy" - MLB fans go wild as Pete Alonso's clutch home run helps Mets to thrilling win over Brewers to book NLDS berth

New York Mets fan-favorite Pete Alonso once again showed his value to the team after his clutch performance helped the team to the NLDS. In the third NL Wild Card game on Thursday, the four-time All-Star smashed a three-run home run in the ninth inning.

The Mets trailed 2-0 against the Milwaukee Brewers heading into the ninth inning. With the season on the nine and two runners on base, Pete Alonso took Brewers reliever Devin Williams deep for a go-ahead three-run moonshot.

The Mets scored another run after Alonso's three-run homer as the NL East team came from behind to win 4-2 and book their place in the NLDS.

MLB fans went wild after the thrilling contest at American Family Field in the last Wild Card game of the postseason.

"I'm not even a Mets or Brewers fan and I yelled out and went crazy."
"I'm not partial to either team tonight, but watching this game is why I LOVE BASEBALL!"

"So obvious. This game was never ending in an anticlimactic way."

Fans also lauded the former Rookie of the Year for his clutch performance.

"I never doubted Pete," a fan showed love to Alonso.
"Legendary three-run opposite field go-ahead home run Alonso! There’s nothing like the Postseason," another fan wrote.

Pete Alonso redeems himself after clutch home run to push Mets to NLDS

Pete Alonso wasn't having the best of games heading into his potential final at-bat as a Met. He was 0-3 leading up to the ninth inning. However, the four-time All-Star redeemed himself with a go-ahead home run against one of the best closers in the game.

He is the first player in Mets history to hit a go-ahead home run while trailing in the ninth inning of a knockout postseason game.

The Mets' come from behind means they will be up against World Series contenders the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS. The first game of the series is scheduled for Saturday and the Phillies will take the Mets lightly at their peril.
