“If I were the manager, Volpe would have to play 5 games AA”; “Worst coached team in sports” - Yankees fans criticize Aaron Boone for being lenient
Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees have not taken an inch forward to improve their performance. After a sweep against the Reds, the Yankees losing skid continued in the Bronx. Fans are disappointed with their progress as they trail the Orioles in the AL East.
The Yanks squandered a 3-1 lead against their AL East rival. The Boston Red Sox took advantage of their bullpen and won the game with a 5-3 final score. The loss recorded the Yankees' fourth straight defeat, dropping their record to 54-36.
During the bottom of the third inning, Ben Rice hit a ground-out ball that got him and DJ LeMahieu out. However, Anthony Volpe was supposed to reach home plate before the tag on LeMahieu. The Yankees shortstop had forgotten to sprint as he trotted to home plate, failing to score.
While several fans were upset with his play, many called out Aaron Boone for his weak management. Yankee fans criticized Boone for being too lenient with the team.
Here's a look at some of the fan reactions on X.
"If I were the manager, Volpe would have to play 5 games AA and 5 games AAA and then you’re back on the team," one fan wrote.
"Worst coached team in sports," another fan responded.
"Make an example of at least one player. Why can’t Boone do just that. Pull the person and take them out of the game. Earn playing time. This is crazy," wrote one fan.
Comments continued to flow as fans expressed their frustration towards the manager.
"This play on top of Grisham milking it yesterday is a microcosm of the Yankees under Boone," another fan replied.
"Boone will defend him," one fan responded.
"Time to clean house and fire Boone," one fan chimed in.
Aaron Boone admits to having only necessary conversations with his team
Every manager has a way of handling crunch situations. Aaron Boone stated that he talks to his team when necessary. It's a hard time for Boone, but it's worth noting that the Yanks are still one of the top teams for the playoffs.
“I have the conversations I think are necessary,” Boone said.
Boone is not new to managing, he has been with the Bronx Bombers for several years. While he might not have led them to the World Series, his managing record has been pretty decent over the years.
