Jack Flaherty was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline from the Detroit Tigers and in exchange, they dealt minor league catcher Thayron Liranzo and infielder Trey Sweeney.
Following the trade, Flaherty reported to the Dodgers facility, making a fashion statement. He was spotted wearing a $47,667 designer graphic shirt from Marine Serre and silver jewelry.
The shirt Jack Flaherty wore was Marine Serre's regenerated tote bag button-down shirt. It is made from a mix of tote bags and deadstock cotton. On the Gate shopping website, the shirt is priced at $47,667.
Apart from Flaherty, the Dodgers also engaged in a three-team trade where they received Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech from the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals.
Jack Flaherty shrugs off medical concerns that led Yankees to backout from trade
Even before the Dodgers jumped the ship for Jack Flaherty, the New York Yankees were reportedly interested in acquiring the veteran pitcher. However, they decided otherwise after checking his medical records of late, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
Flaherty has had lower back concerns, which caused him to miss a start in the first week of July. He reportedly took two injections over the next three weeks and has made three starts since, recording a 1.53 ERA in 17.2 innings.
Upon being asked by reporters on his medical concerns, Flaherty shrugged them off saying he feels good since the All-Star break.
“I’ve felt great since we got back from the [All-Star] break, or even right before that,” Flaherty said.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also doubled down saying their team has done its due diligence on him.
“I’m very comfortable,” Roberts said. “Training staff says he looks great and feels good.”
Exciting times lie ahead for the Burbank, California, native as he'll get to play for his hometown.
“It didn’t really sink in until I got on the phone with my mom yesterday and she brought up some things,” Flaherty told reporters on Wednesday. “I think everyone deep down wants to play for their hometown team. [So] getting the opportunity to is just special.”
The Dodgers needed a starting arm badly this trade deadline amid injury concerns to Walker Buehler and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Though they were reportedly more interested in acquiring Tarik Skubal, Jack Flaherty (7-5, 2.95 ERA) is not a bad bargain either.
