Yankees ace shortstop Anthony Volpe rocked custom Adidas cleats for the two-game Subway Series against the NY Mets, which began on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. His cleats sported the iconic BD4 subway station, which is in 161st Street, Bronx, New York. The train station is the final stop for the fans, from where they progress to Yankee Stadium.

Besides the name of the station, a subway rail cana be seen on the cleats as the sides of the shoes showcased the iconic three stripes of the Adidas brand. Take a look at the images of the cleats here:

Anthony Volpe has been impressive for the Yanks since making his MLB debut last year. The 23-year-old has shown great determination in both aspects of the game. In the current campaign, he's batting with an average of .254, with seven home runs, 36 RBIs and .689 OPS.

The Bronx Bombers and the NY Mets started the second mini-Subway Series on Tuesday, the first one for the second half of the season. The Mets won both games at home in Citi Field during the first Subway Series against the Yankees 9-7 and 12-2. Therefore, the Yankees were eyeing for a series sweep to return the favor to intra city rivals.

Anthony Volpe and Co. failed to spring up a surprise against the Mets in Game 1 of the Subway Series

The Yankees failed to win a third game in a row against the Mets this season after losing Game 1 of the Subway Series 3-2 on Tuesday night.

The Bombers started Luis Gil on the mound, while the NYM started Jose Quintana against the Yanks. Both starting pitchers impressed, as they gave up just one run each and struck out six batters each in five innings pitched.

Both teams were lax on the offensive front, as Anthony Volpe was the sole Yankee from his team to register a multi-hit game, going 2 for 4. The tightly contested game came down to a battle between the relief pitchers, wherein the Mets triumphed handsomely and took game 1 away from a lacklustre Yankees unit.

The series finale of the Subway series will be played on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, with the first pitch due at 7 p.m. EST.
