Lance McCullers Jr.'s injury recovery hits a setback

It was in the 2022 MLB World Series when the Houston Astros' ace last pitched. The following year, he underwent surgery, and while the expectation was that he would return to the mound around this time, his recovery has hit another halt as per the latest report.

According to Astros general manager Dana Brown, Lance McCullers is being shut down from his rehab program after receiving a second opinion on his injury. Brown suggested that the club isn't rushing his rehab and will allow him to heal. However, the GM was hopeful that McCullers could contribute out of the bullpen in September.

It is a disappointing update for the team (51-46), which had a dismal start to the season but has recovered well in the last few months to take the AL West lead over the Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers. However, this is still a well-contested season, and the Astros will need to get on a roll to build up the difference and retain the spot in the postseason.
