In Photos: Freddie Freeman shares precious moment with wife Chelsea and son Charlie post Dodgers clinching NL West championship
Freddie Freeman's wife Chelsea and his son Charlie were in attendance at Dodger Stadium on Thursday when the LA Dodgers clinched the NL West after defeating the San Diego Padres 7-2. This was the Dodgers' 11th NL West title in the past 12 seasons, highlighting their regular season dominance.
It has been a long grind for both Freeman and his wife Chelsea. The family went through a lot after learning about their son Max's Guillan-Barre syndrome a couple of months ago. He's in remission and will take some time before he gets back to his feet.
After the win, Freddie Freeman shared celebratory photos with his wife and his team. Freddie and Chelsea had their firstborn Charlie with them to live that joyous moment.
"NL WEST CHAMPS!!!" Chelsea wrote in caption.
Freddie Freeman reflects on winning NL West with Dodgers
The atmosphere was palpable at Chavez Ravine, with the Dodgers finally taking an edge over chasers San Diego Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks, with the former pushing the Dodgers to the last week of the regular season. However, the team held their end of the bargain despite injury woes and is determined to win it all this season.
Freddie Freeman is proud of his team and he said:
“For us to go out there and keep grinding, fighting. I mean, we do have the best record [in the Majors] -- I know we fought really hard, but when you take a step back, we’ve had a really, really good year.”
Freeman left Friday's game in the seventh inning with a sprained ankle. The X-rays after the game came back negative, which means the Dodgers will have their first baseman when the divisional series starts next week.
“It’s swollen,” Freeman said. “But they’re pretty optimistic that I should be able to go by Saturday in the playoffs. That’s what I’m banking on. I’ve never rolled an ankle, so I don’t know. It’s pretty large right now.”
To recover from injury, Freddie Freeman won't play in the final three-game series against the Colorado Rockies. Kike Hernandez was the starting first baseman for Friday's series opener against the Rockies.
