Gerrit Cole's wife, Amy, captured a heartfelt moment when her firstborn child, Caden Gerrit Cole, got the chance to hit some balls fed by none other than Yankees captain Aaron Judge.
In the ProCamps event, organized by Dick's Sporting Goods for young kids to meet and interact with their favorite ballplayers, Caden got the chance to bond with not only Judge but also Yankees searing young shortstop Anthony Volpe.
Amy took to her Instagram account to post stories from camp, where her son could be seen enjoying an amazing day alongside other kids inside the diamond. She captioned each story with the following:
"Besties."
"Cadens on cloud 9(9)."
"Lucky guy getting to go to two of his favorite players' camps the past couple weeks! @anthonyvolpe @thejudge44"
While Caden had fun, memorable moments in camp, his father, Gerrit, was sweating it out in order to prepare for his start on the mound. Gerrit has been largely inconsistent with his outings since his comeback from rehab in late June.
He is 3-2 in eight starts with an ERA of 5.09, 42 strikeouts and 1.40 WHIP this season. This statline is nowhere near reminiscing of the calibre that the right-hand ace possesses on the mound. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner will hope to get better with each passing gameday as the Yankee hopes ride behind him.
Amy is Gerrit Cole's biggest fan
Throughout this season, Gerrit has had the support of his wife Amy—who has been present in the Yankee Stadium for all of his home games. The couple met at the University of California, Los Angeles as Gerrit used to play with the Bruins baseball team. Meanwhile, Amy was also Bruin athlete and had won the Women's College World Series with the softball team in 2010.
After years of dating, the couple got engaged in 2015 and eventually married a year later, on November 12, 2016, at the Ritz Carlton in Santa Barbara, California. The duo were blessed with their first child, Caden Gerrit Cole, on June 30, 2020. Their second child, a son named Everett Cole, was born less than three years later on January 2, 2023.
In November 2023, Amy took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message for Gerrit after he won the maiden Cy Young award of his big league career.
"There are the stats everyone sees ... But I can’t help thinking about the hidden stats that actually fueled this award," she wrote. "The growth. The tireless discipline.
"Your integrity, humility, gratitude, and the way you celebrate your teammates, all while making sure your family feels loved and supported... those are the real wins. Love being on your team, G. Thanks for giving us yet another reason to celebrate you!"
Gerrit will make his next start on Saturday against the Texas Rangers at Yankee Stadium.
