In Photos: Paul Skenes' girlfriend Olivia Dunne shows off Pirates-themed boots repping rookie boyfriend's jersey number
Olivia Dunne's boyfriend, Paul Skenes, is possibly one start away from capping off what could be said to be an exceptional rookie year. He started for the National League team in the All-Star game, placing him in a rare club.
Skenes has gone 11-3 with a 1.99 ERA, solidifying his candidature for the NL Rookie of the Year title, facing competition from Jackson Merill of the San Diego Padres. The Pittsburgh Pirates rookie will probably make his last start on the road against the New York Yankees and it seems Olivia Dunne has already figured out part of her outfit she would be wearing when Skenes takes the mound.
On Tuesday, Dunne shared a story in which she seems to have received a custom-made pair of white boots inspired by Skenes' Pirates jersey having No. 30 on it. She thanked Jessica Martini for the boots in the snaps she shared.
Now, whether or not Dunne wears them to the game, she sure will add them to her collection.
Olivia Dunne on what it's like to see Paul Skenes pitching 100 mph+
Before Paul Skenes made his MLB debut against the Chicago Cubs in May, he was coming off a College World Series win for the LSU Tigers.
Amid his transition from college baseball to MLB, he had Olivia Dunne by his side. So when the couple first heard about being called up to the majors, the social media star revealed how they had to pack up fast to get to PNC Park in time for Skenes to start the game.
“All I can say is I think that’s the quickest I’ve ever packed in my life,” said Dunne during Skenes' debut. “We just woke up from a nap, he had a few missed calls, and he got called up. He was like, ‘Let’s pack,’ and then we hit the road. It was so exciting.”
Olivia Dunne, who was at the ballpark for the game, said it's exciting and nerve-wracking to see Paul Skenes pitch.
“I always say it’s way harder to be the person in the stands, because I’m not in control. I don’t know how to throw a 100-mile-an-hour fastball,”Dunne said. “It’s hard to have no control, especially with gymnastics when you’re watching. But I know he’s just got this, and I have a lot of confidence in him.”
While Skenes' season is about to conclude as the Pirates failed to make it to the postseason, Dunne could soon be seen on the mat as she returns for her fifth and final college year with hopes of defending the crown for the Tigers.
