For Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Braves, his protracted offseason has come with some silver linings. Among those has been the opportunity to spend more time with his family, including his stunning wife Maria Laborde.
On Saturday, Maria took to Instagram to show off some of her recent activities. As many in the USA find themselves under dropping temperatures, Maria posted some pictures from her native Venezuela - where some fun in the sun was taking place aside her husband Ronald and their sons Ronald Jr. and Jamal.
The Caribbean sun beat down as the Venezuelan couple showed off their athletic frames against the backdrop of the ocean. Additionally, Maria appeared to be spending some extra-special mother-son time, manifested by their attempt at making some sand castle-like structures in the sand.
Due to Ronald Acuna Jr's role as a star outfielder for the Atlanta Braves, the Acuna family normally makes its residence in the suburbs of Atlanta. Evidenced by her regular sharing of pictures from the gym, malls and her beautiful home, Maria appears to be taking to life stateside quite well.
In 2023, Acuna Jr. became the first player in MLB history to swipe 70 bases while hitting 40 or more homers in the same season, winning the NL MVP for his efforts. However, during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates in May, Acuna tore his ACL for the second time since 2021, sidelining him for the remainder of the season.
As the pair relax in their homeland, Acuna Jr. knows that heavy expectations will be on his shoulders in 2025. However, judging by his record, the 26-year-old will have no issues rising to meet them.
Braves remain cautious about Ronald Acuna Jr. return
Although it has been more than six months since Acuna Jr. sustained his injury, the Braves are still being careful about redeploying him. As GM Alex Anthopoulos told the media on Nov. 7:
"I think, look, once we get to spring, you get to the beginning of February, you'll have a much better idea on timelines. We're planning that they will not be part of the Opening Day roster, and how soon after that, we'll know more as we get deeper into the offseason."
Whenever his return comes, opposing teams better be ready. The Venezuelan is one of the most potent offensive forces in baseball.
