"It messes with your mind" - White Sox manager Grady Sizemore shares insight into Garrett Crochet's innings limitations
One of the most surprising superstar turns this season was that of Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet. The reliever made the formiable jump from the bullpen to the starting rotation this season and was not only serviceable but downright electric, earning an All-Star selection in the process.
Unfortunately for Garrett Crochet, the Chicago White Sox have been stringing together one of the worst seasons in recent memory. As a result, the 25-year-old has seen an innings restriction in recent outings, as the team has nothing to play for and is looking to keep their superstar healthy.
It's a disappointing ending to the year for Crochet who made the jump to becoming a true superstar. Although he has not been shutdown, he has not thrown more than 4.0 innings since July 30, something that White Sox interim manager Grady Sizemore acknowledges would be difficult for any player.
"When you know that you're gonna be on a limit, whether it's innings or pitches, it messes with your mind,” Sizemore told reporters during an interview in the dugout.
Sizemore spoke about how innings limitations could be weighing on Crochet, especially considering the unpredictable nature. The uncertainty of how long Crochet could be on the mound is difficult for the pitcher. That said, Sizemore praised his young pitcher for how "tough" he has been by delivering quality performances.
Garrett Crochet might not be the only Chicago White Sox player who could find himself limited for the remainder of the season. Superstar outfielder Luis Robert Jr. has struggled to remain healthy throughout his young career, so protecting both him and Crochet could be part of the team's plans.

Although Crochet has been an effective strikeout pitcher throughout his professional career, no one could have predicted just how great he would be as a starter for the first time in the MLB. As of Sunday, Crochet has posted a 3.61 ERA with 1.07 WHIP and 176 strikeouts.

Even though he has seen his innings limited, Crochet remains fourth in the majors in terms of total strikeouts. While the Chicago White Sox may have a long road ahead of them, it's clear that the future is bright for Crochet. If he can continue this type of dominance, he could potentially land himself a Cy Young Award in the future.
