"It's absolute disaster...it's a shame" - Former Twins star reflects on Chicago White Sox having one of the worst seasons in MLB history

The Chicago White Sox suffered yet another defeat on Sunday, their 20th in a row, which has only served to worsen what is already the franchise's worst season. The White Sox’s disastrous 2024 campaign has led to deep frustration from ex-MLB star Trevor Plouffe.

Plouffe, known for his time with the Minnesota Twins, has been a prominent figure in baseball analysis since his retirement.

On "Baseball Today" on JM Baseball (YouTube) channel with host Chris Rose, Plouffe shared his opinion on Chicago's season.

“It’s an absolute disaster there; it really is,” Plouffe said (Time Stamp: 21:44). "It’s a shame, dude. It really is a shame. But there, that’s their reality right now. They’re going through one of the worst seasons in the history of baseball.
"They blow games; they can't hold a lead. It's bad, man. It's tough. It's horrible," he added

He further criticized how players were traded away inappropriately, leading to more problems for the team. Plouffe has concerns about where the Chicago White Sox seems to be headed. The team's dismal performance has sparked discussions about potential management and roster changes.

This year’s Chicago White Sox have put up their poorest performance historically and are on pace to lose 124 games. This would surpass the record held by the Cleveland Spiders from 1899 for the most losses in a season. The present crisis goes even deeper since Chicago has become just the seventh MLB franchise to lose 20 consecutive games.

Chicago White Sox extend losing streak to 20 games with 13-7 defeat to Twins

For the Chicago White Sox, Sunday was another painful day as their agonizing season was stretched to 20 straight losses with a 13-7 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. This is the longest losing streak in Major League Baseball in 36 years, one shy of the American League record.

The game quickly fell apart for the Sox (27-87) as Chris Flexen gave up a three-run homer to Royce Lewis during a six-run second inning. The Twins raced to an 8-0 lead, and while Chicago closed to 10-7 in the eighth, it was all in vain.

Chicago’s franchise-record losing streak now matches four other teams for the third-longest since 1900, including the 1969 Montreal Expos and the 1943 Philadelphia Athletics. The White Sox have fallen below .500 by 60 games for the first time and are on pace for a woeful return of 38-124.
