"It's a privilege to wear this uniform"- Tommy Pham gets emotional after hitting grand slam after returning to the Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals' new acquisition Tommy Pham shared an emotional message after hitting a grand slam in his first game back with the club. The Cardinals defeated the Texas Rangers 8-1 in the second game of their three-game series on July 30.

Pham entered the game in the fifth inning as a pinch-hitter with the bases loaded. He hit a 405-foot grand slam to right center that put the interleague showdown way out of reach.

In the post-game interview, Pham expressed his emotions about hitting a grand slam for the team with whom his MLB journey started. He also showed gratitude towards the fans who welcomed him back at Busch Stadium.

"The fans gave me a lot of energy,” he said after the 8-1 win, per Bally Sports Midwest. “Got a little butterflies inside from that, man…. The birds on the bat across the chest means a lot, man. It's a privilege to wear this uniform.”

Pham initially started his MLB career in 2014 with the Cardinals, until he was traded to Tampa Bay in 2018. Tuesday's performance was his first game in six years as a Cardinal, returning to the club in a deal at the trade deadline.

Pham had played 71 games this season for the Chicago White Sox, hitting .267, an OPS of .723, with six home runs and 23 RBIs.
