"Jackson Holliday looks cute" - Fans react as Orioles rookies dress up as Peter Pan characters ahead of Yankees vs. Orioles AL East title clash
Fans reacted as Jackson Holliday sported fun dresses of Peter Pan characters, along with other Baltimore Orioles rookies. The Orioles are in New York to play a three-game series that could decide who clinch the AL East.
As the Orioles bus arrived near the Yankee Stadium facility, Holliday stepped out wearing Wendy Darling's iconic light blue short-sleeved dress. Another rookie, Colton Cowser, was spotted wearing Tinkerbell's green dress from the movie. One other rookie stepped out wearing Captain Hook's outfit.
That led social media to erupt with all sorts of reactions.
"Jackson has to be my favorite lesbian, they’re so cute," one fan commented.
"Jackson Holliday looks cute," another wrote.
"wtf going on in Baltimore 😭" another added.
"a whole clown show down in Baltimore," one user wrote.
"Idk but whoever picked out the Captain Hook outfit is diabolical," one fan posted.
"I mean maybe the should try winning games instead..." another fan had a serious take out of funny situation.
MLB Hazing rules explored amid Orioles rookie Jackson Holliday dressing up as a woman
Amid the fan row, one user recollected an old MLBPA institutionalized in 2016 to discourage hazing rituals in the clubhouse.
As per the anti-hazing and anti-bullying policy, players can't wear offensive costumes that concern race, sex, nationality, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or other characteristics. That involves dressing up as a woman too.
The reason for bringing out this policy was to discourage harmful behavior teams had previously engaged in leading to harassment of rookies. Before the policy came into effect, the then-Dodgers ace Ross Stripling was the last MLB player to dress up as women, but he felt honored in doing so.
As for the photos going online of the Orioles rookies dressing up as women, there's little clarity on whether MLB will take action for the incident. However, social media is making light of the situation, and it's unlikely that the players were coerced into doing so.
