Jackson Holliday rates Bobby Witt Jr.'s golf skills
Baltimore Orioles rookie Jackson Holliday golfed with Mason "Busta" Nutt and Cole "MadJack" Lantz, the popular golf content creator duo. During their conversations, Holliday was asked about the best golfer in MLB.
The 20-year-old didn't think much about answering the query.
"I'm sure Bobby [Witt Jr.] is pretty good. I saw him at a charity tournament one time and I feel like he was absolutely smashing balls. He does that with the baseball so," said Holliday [1:05:45].
The charity tournament Holliday mentioned was organized in November by Team Hilliard Foundation, a 501 C3 nonprofit organization to raise awareness and funds to fight ALS.
Incidentally, the organization announced Witt Jr. will be part of the 2024 Team Hilliard Golf Charity Tournament at Texas Rangers Golf Course.
2024 was Witt Jr.'s best season in the MLB. The 24-year-old was an All-Star, won a Gold Glove Award, and was the AL batting champion, defeating Aaron Judge. Both Bobby Witt Jr. and Jackson Holliday are sons of World Series champions.
Witt Jr.'s father, also named Bobby, was a pitcher who won the World Series with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001. He also won a Silver medal in baseball for Team USA in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
On the other hand, Jackson Holliday's father Matt, was one of the best sluggers of his generation. A seven-time All-Star, Matt Holliday won the World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011. Moreover, he was the NLCS MVP, batting champion, and RBI leader in 2007 with the Colorado Rockies.
Jackson Holliday unimpressed by his dad Matt's golfing skills
While Jackson Holliday appreciates the Royals shortstop’s golfing skills, the Orioles rookie isn’t as impressed with his father Matt’s game. Nonetheless, the Orioles rookie appreciates his dad's skills with the seven iron.
The 20-year-old sees potential in his father but believes the Cardinals HOFer is too frustrated to succeed. Jackson said to the content creators, sharing his experience golfing with his old man.
"My dad's not good, but he hits a seven iron pretty far, though. Went golfing yesterday, and I like filled his bag up for him. It was like a makeshift set of clubs because he got clubs like four years ago, and just he's like, "Where's my seven iron?" I got no clue," said Holliday [Timestamp 1:05:56].
"He's like, "It's the only club I can hit." Then he gets his driving iron and hits like, five feet over here, and then he'll hit a he can probably hit a seven iron from right here, and you'd be like, 'Okay, there's potential, there's plenty of potential.' He just gets too frustrated," Holliday added.
Even more than actual golf, Jackson Holliday is good at Golden Tee Golf, the popular arcade game. He had challenged Freddie Freeman, for an offseason face-off.
