Jazz Chisholm Jr. Injury Update: Yankees Infielder leaves White Sox game early with left elbow injury, set for further testing tomorrow
New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. left Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox in the seventh inning due to a left elbow injury. On Anthony Volpe's infield hit, Chisholm reached home from second in the fifth inning. However, he seemed to have hurt his left elbow while sliding to reach home plate.
In between innings, the displays on the live broadcast were concerning for fans to see, with Chisholm Jr. trying to rotate his left arm (via MLB.com):
“My adrenaline was still going, so I didn’t feel it right away,” Chisholm Jr. said. “An inning went by, just sitting there, and I started to feel it a little bit.”
Initially, he stayed in the game but was replaced later by Ben Rice in the seventh inning. Subsequently, Rice took up first base, leading DJ LeMahieu to shift stations from first to third. The New York Yankees' recent trade deadline acquisition will reportedly undergo further testing on Tuesday.
In Monday's lopsided 12-2 loss against the White Sox, Jazz Chisholm Jr. went 2-for-3, scoring one run. He has been everything the Bronx Bombers envisioned, bringing comfort both at the plate and in the field.
He started off well, becoming the first Yankee to hit seven home runs in his first 12 games. Since the trade, he is hitting .316 and has driven in 11 runners in 14 games.
Defensively, Chisholm Jr. has taken up third base, something he hasn't been accustomed to doing during his time with the Miami Marlins, where he mostly played centerfield or shortstop.
Immediate testing comes back clean for Jazz Chisholm Jr.
According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, the X-rays on Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s left elbow came back clean.
“I’m not super concerned about it,” Chisholm Jr. said. “We went through all the tests, and all the tests that we’ve done in here have been pretty positive. I still feel it a little bit, it’s still kind of sore, but I think that we’re going to be good.”
Further testing scheduled for Tuesday will provide a clearer picture of the extent of Chisholm's injury, as Yankees fans will hope he can return to the field as the club continues its three-game series against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday.
