Jazz Chisholm Jr. Injury Update: Yankees third baseman to return from IL against Rockies after avoiding surgery

Jazz Chisholm Jr. will reportedly be activated from the 10-day IL by the New York Yankees. The Yankees feared Chisholm might require surgery but MRI scans reportedly showed no tear to the tissues.

According to Andy Martino of SNY Network, the Yankees plan to bring Jazz Chisholm Jr. back into the team prior to their series opener against the Colorado Rockies.

"The Yankees indeed plan to activate Jazz Chisholm Jr. from the IL prior to tomorrow’s game, per source. Once feared for UCL surgery, he hardly missed any time," Martino posted through X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday evening.

The Yankees acquired Chisholm Jr. from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline in July. He played only 14 games for his new team before landing on the IL during the 12-2 blowout loss to the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 12. Chisholm sprained the UCL on his non-throwing left elbow as he slid into home plate to score a run and collided with White Sox catcher Korey Lee.

His layoff was shortened greatly after it was announced that he would not require any elbow reconstruction surgery. Therefore, the 26-year-old only had one stint on the 10-day IL and is returns to the team after completing his short recovery.

Meanwhile, the New York Yankees have optioned out Oswald Peraza to their Triple-A affiliate on Thursday evening, according to MLB.com correspondent Bib Hoch. He suggested the decision was taken to make room for the impending return of Jazz Chisholm Jr.

"The Yankees have optioned Oswald Peraza to Triple-A, which points to the likelihood of Jazz Chisholm Jr. being activated tomorrow," Hoch posted on X.

Peraza received some rare playing time recently, but only managed to hit 2-10 with a walk and a home run in the four games. The 24-year-old third baseman was not likely to get on the field once Chisholm Jr. returned to the side. Despite being an outfielder by trade, the Bahamian has mainly been used on the hot corner by the Yankees, with DJ LeMahieu moving to first base.

In addition to playing solid defense, Chisholm Jr. has provided a major spark at the top of the Yankees lineup. Thus far, he has batted .316/.361/.702 for his new team with 7 home runs and an OPS above 1.000.
