Jorge Lopez contract: Breaking down pitcher's salary details as Mets DFA reliever following outburst

Jorge Lopez got ejected from the game on Wednesday and reacted very poorly, which cost him his job as he was designated for assignment. Prior to that, he had been under contract with the New York Mets, albeit for just one season.

Lopez was once a top reliever in the sport, but he was only signed by the Mets on a one-year, $2 million deal. It was all guaranteed and moved his career earnings to over $9 million.

Since it was guaranteed, Jorge Lopez earned that $2 million but he no longer has a job. He will presumably clear waivers in a few days and be eligible to sign a new contract with any team that wants him.

Jorge Lopez has no regrets over glove incident

Jorge Lopez was ejected in the ninth inning of the New York Mets' 10-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He responded by chirping at everyone he passed and throwing his glove into the stands. The Mets responded by DFAing him.

Before that, he was asked by reporters in the locker room how he felt about his actions. He answered via ESPN:

"No, I don't regret it. I think I have been on the worst team in probably the whole f*****g MLB. You know so whatever happened happens. So, whatever they want to do, I will be tomorrow here if they want me, whatever they want to do."

Lopez called the inciting incident a "misunderstanding," adding:

"Just something out of emotions. I just don't give a f**k [about] anything."

The Mets have endured a very tough stretch of play. It's been a disappointing season all year long. Manager Carlos Mendoza understands that, but did not give Lopez a pass post-game:

"Whenever you're going through a stretch like this, you want to see some emotions from players, anybody in here. But what we saw today out of Lopey, that's not acceptable. And we will address that internally here."

The Mets internally addressed it by removing Lopez from their active roster a few hours after the game concluded.
