"Juan Soto called me a unicorn" - Yankees closer Luke Weaver makes pitch for outfielder to return to Bronx in free agency

Luke Weaver has played with and against Juan Soto during his career. If he had his way, he'd play with him for the rest of the time. Weaver isn't on a long-term contract, but he'd like to see Soto ink one in the Bronx after the two players helped guide the New York Yankees to the World Series.

"I love that man, I really do," Weaver said. "I love being on his team. I do not love being on the other team, which I have been a couple times. I think a lot of pitchers would agree with me. He's the best guy. He's a humble superstar."

The Yankees closer also said Soto has all the attributes that anyone could want, adding:

"We formed a great relationship. I'll never forget the first time he called me a unicorn. It felt like the biggest compliment in the world coming from one of the greatest players we've all ever seen."

The relief pitcher said Soto means a lot to him as a teammate and as a player, noting that he could sign for "infinity" money and be worth every penny.

Mets executive says team will be all-in on Juan Soto

The New York Yankees won't be the only team pursuing Juan Soto this winter. The New York Mets, among others, are expected to be major players in his sweepstakes.

Mets front office executive Carlos Beltran confirmed what everyone was thinking. The Mets want Soto and will go after him aggressively. Via NJ.com, he said:

“The Mets want to improve the team and there is no doubt that they will go after free agents, especially Juan Soto, who everybody wants. The Mets will go full blast for him.”

The Mets don't have a lot of money tied up in player contracts and are said to be interested in most of the top free agents.
